The SAL is back stitch only. There are 25 individual sections plus a simple border.
While the SAL officially starts in January 2018, I will release the first section and the borders in November 2017. After that, sections will be released monthly and the SAL will conclude in December 2019.
(In case of illness or other circumstances there are plans in place for releasing the SAL.)
The full project is 135 stitches wide and 135 stitches high. On 14 count Aida or over 2 on 28 count evenweave/linen the design size is around 10 inches square. You will need to add extra fabric around the edges for finishing.
I would suggest using 14/28 count because detail may be lost on more densely woven fabric unless you use a very thin floss. On the 14/28 ct I would use 1 strand of floss. However, you may want to use 2 strands for a more dramatic look. Stitch a test patch to see which you like best.
The color choice is up to you for the fabric and floss. Use one color of floss for the entire design or try one color for the borders and another color for the motifs. Basically there are 26 parts to this SAL, so you can use from 1 to 26 colors or any combination in between. The amount of floss needed for the project will vary depending on your color choices. If you use one color like me, one skein may be enough, but I am starting out with two just in case.
If you have questions about the SAL, the Connie Gee's Stitchers Group on Facebook is a great resource. You may also contact me directly.
