Some couples argue about money - others argue about household chores. I am sure there are many other topics couples argue about actually. My DH and I though - we argue about music. My DH's hearing is not that great so when he listens to his music he cranks it up. And I can't get him to wear headphones because he has a hearing aid. So I am forced to wear headphones and I can still hear it sometimes. We argue because he likes to listen to heavy metal and I like alternative and indie rock. And his music "bothers my bipolar" as my niece teases. And my music does nothing for him either.
Now, don't get me wrong - I like a heavy metal song here and there and my DH likes some of the songs I listen to, but neither one of us wants a steady diet of the others music. We end up listening to NOTHING in the car because we can't agree. I keep telling DH that he needs to let me put a few CDs that we both like on my iPod but he is being weird about it. I mean, we both like Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, and Government Mule - just to name a few artists. He is just being weird about it though - I think he wants to be the one in complete control.
At least I get to listen to whatever I want when I am in the car alone. And lately I have been listening to some new stuff and some classic stuff. Hozier has been high on my playlist. I love it when an album is full of songs I like and this one is. I don't ever skip over any of them.
I have also been listening to Milky Chance - I bought the Sadnecessary album for one song, but luckily I like a lot of the other songs on the album too. And, my classic listen lately (I hate to say that because it makes me feel so old) has been Nirvana Unplugged in New York. I remember where I was when I found out that Kurt Cobain had died. I was waiting in the car while a friend was buying his car tag. I got bored and turned on the radio and they were playing the Tori Amos cover of Teen Spirit. And I KNEW. He had been missing for a couple of days so it wasn't a shock, but of course it made me so, so sad.
When I buy music, I buy CDs. I don't like this new-fangled digital stuff very much. I want to hold the CD in my hand and see the cover art and read the liner notes, if there are any. I will buy a download of a song every now and then, but for the most part I stick to CDs so I have that hard copy of the song.
One "new-fangled" thing I do love is Pandora. My favorite Pandora station right now is my Alabama Shakes station. I don't even have any of their albums (yet - they are on my list). The station plays a great variety of artists and I like that.
